INDOOR WINTER STORAGE
Indoor and Outdoor Winter Storage at MSY
Mystic Shipyard offers secure indoor storage that protects your vessel from the elements all winter long. Boats stored indoors are cared for in a controlled environment, allowing our team to continue service work throughout the off-season—regardless of weather. The result is a boat that returns to the water in showroom condition, with projects completed on schedule.
Our facility is equipped to handle both power and sailing vessels, from modern, system-intensive yachts to classic wooden boats. With a wide range of equipment and specialized craftsmen, every project is handled with precision and care. We also offer outdoor winter storage.
Rigging And Mast Storage
Each fall, our rigging team unstep every mast and stores it in our heated indoor shop. Throughout the winter, our technicians inspect and service all rigging components in a controlled environment. In the spring, masts are stepped with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring your rig is safe, reliable, and performing at its best.
A Standard of Care
Whether stored indoors or outdoors, every vessel at Mystic Shipyard is maintained to the highest standard. Our team approaches each boat with the same level of care and attention as if it were our own.
Winter Storage at MSY Ensures Your Boat Receives:
-
Our team of professional boat handlers haul and powerwash every boat, removing bottom growth, waterline stains, and salt residue on the hull. In conjunction with our decommissioning services, your vessel is put to bed for the winter and prepared for its winter work and spring commissioning.
-
We perform complete, system-based decommissioning to prepare your vessel for winter storage. Services include engine and generator winterization, fuel stabilization, raw water system flushing, and protection of all plumbing systems.
Batteries are disconnected and maintained, and all mechanical and electrical systems are checked for issues prior to storage. We document system condition and flag any recommended off-season work.
MSY’s thorough decommissioning process prevents freeze damage and ensures a smooth recommissioning in the spring.
-
MSY performs inspection, maintenance, and replacement of standing and running rigging to ensure safe, reliable, and properly tuned systems.
-
We install custom-framed, marine-grade shrink wrap to fully protect vessels from moisture, UV exposure, and debris during storage. MSY also handles installation and removal of any custom covers.
-
Our heated work bays allows us to move boats in and out throughout the winter. Work continues regardless of weather, keeping projects on schedule and completed in a controlled environment.
-
Our team of expert detailers takes pride in keeping every boat in showroom condition, top to bottom. Hulls and topsides are cleaned, compounded, polished and sealed. Under the waterline, our team applies a fresh coat of bottom paint, coats all underwater metals, and applies a new set of anodes.
-
We perform complete commissioning to prepare your vessel for the season. Systems are checked, tested, and brought online, including engines, electrical, plumbing, and onboard equipment.
Once complete, we conduct a full sea trial to verify performance under load. Whether you prefer to cruise around or you like to run your boat wide open, a professional sea trial ensures any issues are identified and addressed immediately.
